How to import
- On iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Android: open Settings, choose Import Notes, and pick your files. Without an account, Markdown files, ZIP archives and TextBundles import on the device; for Google Keep and Bear, sign in.
- On the web: open Settings, then Your notes, and choose Import Notes. Drop files or click to browse. The web needs an account to import.
What you can import
- Markdown files (
.md,.txt): one note per file - ZIP archive (
.zip): a folder of Markdown files, such as an Obsidian vault or Notion's Markdown & CSV export - TextBundle (
.textpack, or a zipped.textbundlefolder): the format of apps like Bear, Ulysses, and iA Writer - Google Keep (
.zip): the ZIP that Google Takeout gives you, as it is - Bear backup (
.bear2bk): Bear's export
You can pick several files at once. Each file brings in up to 500 notes; anything beyond that is skipped and reported.
What happens to your notes
Hashtags become Caliu tags, nested ones like #work/project included, and so do Google Keep labels and the tags of a note's frontmatter. Links between imported notes keep pointing at each other, images and files inside an archive come along, pinned and archived notes from Bear and Google Keep stay that way, and a note that is already here is skipped instead of copied twice. With an account, a sync then brings everything to all your devices.
