Search in Caliu looks through the full text of your notes, not just titles. And because your notes live on your device, search works instantly and fully offline. No connection required.
Where to search
- In the web app: open the command palette with
Cmd+K(orCtrl+K) and start typing. Matching notes, tags, and commands appear as you type. - On iPhone, iPad, and Mac: use the search field in the note list. Results update as you type.
- Inside a note: the web app also has find-in-note on
Cmd+F(orCtrl+F) to jump to a word in the open note.
Searching by tag
The fastest way to browse by tag is the sidebar: click any tag to filter the list to notes that carry it, including notes tagged with anything nested underneath it. In the web app's command palette, tags show up as results too, so you can jump to a tag view from the keyboard. To combine a tag with words, type it in the search: #recipes ramen.
Narrowing a search
Every word you type must match, anywhere in a note's title or text. Add these to find exactly what you need:
| Type | To find |
|---|---|
ramen broth | notes with both words |
"ramen broth" | notes with that exact phrase |
ramen -spicy | notes with ramen but not spicy |
ramen or pho | notes with either word |
#recipes | notes tagged recipes, or with a tag nested under it |
!#recipes | notes tagged recipes itself, not its nested tags |
-#recipes | notes without that tag |
@title ramen | notes with ramen in the title |
@todo | notes with an unchecked checkbox |
@done | notes whose checkboxes are all checked |
@task | notes with any checkbox |
@pinned | pinned notes |
@tagged, @untagged | notes with tags, or with none |
@images, @files, @attachments | notes with images, files, or either |
@code | notes with code |
@wikilinks | notes that link to another note |
@readonly | read-only notes |
@untitled | notes without a title |
@today, @yesterday | notes edited today or yesterday |
@last7days | notes edited in the last 7 days (any number works) |
@ctoday, @created7days | the same, by the day the note was created |
@date(2026-10-18) | notes edited on that day, or in a month (2026-10) or a year (2026) |
@date(<2026-10), @date(>2026-10) | notes edited before or after it |
@cdate(2026-10) | the same, by the day the note was created |
Put - in front of any @ filter to leave those notes out, like -@todo. Mix them freely: #work @todo -#work/archive finds your open work tasks outside the archive tag.
Results highlight the words that matched, and when the match is deep inside a note, its card shows the lines around it.
What search skips
Trashed and archived notes stay out of your results, so old material never buries current work. To find them, open the Trash or Archive view in the sidebar.
